Rules to Live By

This is not an all-inclusive list, and it is in no particular order.

· You don't need to find yourself. You need to figure out for what you stand, in what you believe, and out of everything what and who you love. Then create yourself.
· Do something every day to get out of your comfort zone. Try new things. Eat new foods. Go new places. Life is an adventure.
· Do not go where the path my lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. -RW Emerson
· Be both a teacher and a student simultaneously. Never stop learning, but never forget to share your wisdom.
· Focus on what you want, ignore what you don’t. Stay focused. You will be surprised what a difference it makes.
· Keep moving, don’t stand still. The world will surly pass you by.
· Always find something to be grateful for. That silver lining may be hard to find, but never fear, it is there.
· Take full responsibility for everything you have in your life. You have earned everything you have. You have also paid the consequences for your actions. Don’t blame others for your failures, and don’t let them take credit for your victories.
· Don’t procrastinate.
· Forgive quickly. Don’t hold grudges. They will surly consume you. It takes too much energy away from positivity. Just let go and move on.
· Stop trying to control other people. The only person you can change is yourself.
· Be kind to yourself. Don’t be too hard on yourself. You are human, and humans make mistakes. Learn from them and move on.
· Be happy with what you have but always strive for more. If you are comfortable with what you have you will never get what you desire. Be happy, but not comfortable.
· Live honestly. Never lie to yourself or others, but be careful not to hurt them. If you want to say something negative, make it positive. It takes practice but it is possible.
· Value family. Sometimes they may be the only people you have. Anyone can be family, common DNA is not necessary.
· Trust your gut. If your gut is telling you that you are in a bad situation, you are. If it is telling you something just isn’t right, it’s not. Accept this and embrace it.
· Never make a threat you don’t intend to carry out. This also equally applies to promises. You are only as good as your word. Do not tell someone you will do something and then not do it. People count on you to do what you say. Don’t disappoint them or, more importantly, yourself.
· Know when to hold ‘em. Know when to fold ‘em. If you are in a bad situation that only seems to get worse, get out. However there is a difference in getting out and chickening out. Don’t let fear rule you.
· Stuff is just stuff t is only as important as the happiness and security it brings. It is not important itself.
· Don’t feel sorry for yourself. No one else does. Analyze the situation and fix it.
· You must be the change you want to see in the world. –Mahatma Gandhi
· Don’t be greedy or stingy. Share.
· Never give up. When things get the hardest, it is usually right before you are about to succeed. Again, don’t let fear rule you. Believe in yourself.
· Never expect life to be fair. It isn’t. Make your own luck.
· Lighten up. Things are almost never as bad as they seem.
· Laugh at yourself. It makes for a happier, less stressed life.
· Don’t sweat the small stuff, but don’t forget it exists.
· Don’t let others ruin your day. You are in charge of you. No one can make you feel anything without your permission.
· Be kind to animals. They are our brothers, and our regard for them is a measure of our moral progress. –Melody Ransom
· Never fake an orgasm, or anything else. Be sincere.
· Avoid gossip.
· Never say no to a gift from a child.
· Take time for checkers. We are all busy. Make time to enjoy life. This goes right along with take time to smell the roses. It’s an adventure. Enjoy it.
· Study your mistakes. If you don’t learn from the mistakes you made and the negative things that happen to you, they will become the window through which you view the world.
· Figure out what you want and go for it. When you walk with purpose, you collide with destiny.
· Don’t try to fit in life and society’s cookie cutter. You can’t fit in if you’re leading. You have to be in the front.
· Be nice to strangers. You never know what they can do for you or what you will be able to do for them.
· Be nice to children. They are our future, and you can learn a lot from them.
· Whether or not you can carry a tune, sing. it's good for the soul.

Mood for Love

Why cant people just be
In the mood for love?
Why do we hate ourselves,
Hate each other,
Hate women and girls,
And men and boys?
Why do we hate the skin
Of the family of friends ?
Why do we hate the love we see
In others?
Cant we just breathe?
Just breathe the love.
Breathe the light that shines
From inside.
From inside the innocent,
Inside the weak,
In the strong and brave,
In the hearts of children,
In the minds of aged.
A light of hope.
A saber of love,
To wage a righteous war.
A war on all who step on the small,
Who scream words of hate.
Words based in fear—
Fear of change,
Fear of the love they do not have,
Nor can they create.
Love cannot flourish,
In a heart filled with hate.
Take all your loathing
And hide it away in a coffin—
A coffin of light.
It cannot survive away in that box,
Once the room fills with light.
In that light
Will breed the love
We’re all dying to meet.
Let the passion bud and bloom.
Let it blossom.
Growing and glowing
It will clean the darkness from the air,
We are all who can nurture.
We are all who can kill.
It is time for us all
To be in the mood for love.

Be the Change

If you could go back in history and ask anyone who made a positive change in the world if they rocked the boat or ruffled feathers, they would say yes.
If you asked the same person if it was worth it, I'm sure you would get the same answer.
Sometimes it's lonely doing the right thing and getting things done. People often talk about how things should change, but that's all it is-- talk.
Whereas I am being the change I want to see. I am not just standing idly by and watching all that's wrong with the world. I am taking actions to change these things and make the world a better place.
If I can make one person's life better, I am changing the world. It isn't going to happen over night, and I cannot do it by myself, but that does not mean I will not try to change the world one step at a time.
You can back me or not.
You can love me or hate me.
You can run with me,
You can run away from me.
You do whatever it is that you feel you need to do, and I will do the same.
When your life flashes before your eyes, will you be proud of what you see?

untitled

with everything beating through me
i try to understand
all that's happening around me
and to me
you'd think i'd be used to it
the need i feel
to rescue those in danger
to save them from themselves
they're already covered in gasoline
i have to keep them from striking matches
it's like as if they like the danger
the spark in the strike
the glow in the flame
the risk of it spreading
they either feel no resistance
or they don't care
they need someone-- anyone
to pull them from the downward spiral
in which they constantly find themselves
the misery they create
is consuming them
and will continue to do so
unless a heroine steps into play
but
is it really heroism
if it's what one feels they need to do?
i can't stand to see people drown
in a delusional world of their own creation
is it because i've been in those shoes
and walked those same steps?
is it because i was able to help myself
pull myself up and out
of the dismal misery i created?
is it because i know
some cannot do it
alone?
why do i need to be the one to help?
and does it even matter
maybe this is one of the things in life
we are not supposed to understand
it doesn't matter
WHY i want to help--
only THAT i want to help
and that i DO help.
